Adventures in Gaming: Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, Star Wars Unlimited, and a Trip Back to 1822

What We’ve Been Playing

Hello, friends! Let’s talk about what’s been keeping Donny and me (Dave!) busy in our gaming worlds because well, this is our new format!

First up: Donny is crushing it with Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands! If you mashed up the silly, over-the-top action of Borderlands with the magic and mayhem of Dungeons & Dragons, you’d get this masterpiece. He’s been playing it up in co-op with his wife and they’ve been clearly having a blast.

Meanwhile, I’ve been knee-deep in the galaxy far, far away with the Star Wars Unlimited Trading Card Game. I’m preparing for the big Planetary Qualifier (PQ) tournament, so it’s been all Bossk, all the time. My red/Green deck is packed with bounties and ambushes, and I feel like I’m finally nailing the strategy. Will I win? Definitely not—but I’m having a ton of fun trying.

Reviewing the Classic Game UNO

UNO is one of those games that everyone loves, and for good reason! Here’s our breakdown of why it’s a forever favorite:

Setup/Learning Curve:
SO easy. Shuffle, deal, and boom—you’re ready to play. You could literally teach this to a toddler (but maybe don’t, because they’ll probably beat you).

Game Balance:
Sure, luck plays a part, but there’s a sneaky level of strategy when you’re deciding whether to save that Wild card or slam down a Skip. It’s anyone’s game, and I love that at least.

Overall Theme/Design:
It’s very simple, but just so iconic. Plus, the simple design means it works for every occasion, from chill hangouts to heated family game nights. Does it need any more? Nope, clearly it does not.

Cost:
UNO is super affordable, and for how many hours of fun you get? Total bargain! Plus, with all the cool themed editions out there (UNO BTS, anyone?), you can keep it fresh forever.

Verdict:
We’re here for it! Oh, and let’s talk about The Rule. You know the one: NO stacking +2 cards on top of each other. That’s chaos we do not need in our lives, and we stand with UNO on this. Period.

Back to 1822 – A Traveler’s Tour Through the United States

Okay, buckle up because we’re hopping into a time machine and heading to 1822! That’s when A Traveler’s Tour Through the United States became the first board game ever published in America. History buffs, rejoice!

The game is all about traveling across the U.S. (as it was back then, anyway). Think of it like a vintage road trip but on a board! Players rolled dice to move across a map, learning about states and cities along the way. It’s educational and fun—kind of like the OG Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? but, you know, without Carmen.

Sure, it’s super simple compared to the games we have now, but there’s something so charming about how it sparked curiosity and a love for exploration. It’s like holding a little piece of history every time you play.

P.S.

Alright I said in the podcast that I would update you on how I did in the Planetary Qualifier, so if you’ve read this far, you deserve to know! I…. did terrible. I won 1 match and that’s it. It was 7 rounds, and I left after getting a 0-2 beating in round 5. With that said though, I would absolutely 1000% do it again! Had a lot of fun, talked with a bunch of other players, and may go to their weekly play nights every now and again. I may not have slipped into that top 8, or even close to it, but it was a good day!
