Weapons of Vengeance
I collect a lot of different series, and let’s just say I don’t read them all… at least not right away. Ghost rider books seem to be the most consistent that I actually read. I’ve been very invested in Johnny Blaze and Talia Warroad’s recent journey together. Gives me a sort of Supernatural (TV Series) vibe. The series has had plenty of surprises but the cameo of Wolverine in issue #5 was certainly unexpected but very welcomed.
Which brings us to the point of this blog entry. Weapons of Vengeance is a four part crossover with Ghost Rider and Wolverine. The Alpha comic (pictured at the beginning of this article) starts us off with a flashback to the event that pulls Wolverine and Ghost Rider together for the next three comics. After that it starts off with Ghost Rider issue #17 (pictured to the right), then goes to the Wolverine series (issue #36 pictured below), and finally finishes up with an Omega issue! (The final picture).
I’m going to keep this entry spoiler free and just gloss over the plot points so don’t expect to be able to just read this and skip the whole event. Well, the Alpha might be pretty well covered to set the scene, but other than that.
Basically the crossover is a demon like creature is threatening the area and obviously, Ghost Rider is there to stop it. Problem is this demon has possessed a poor innocent, as per usual. Now this seems very cookie cutter Ghost Rider, so how does Wolverine come in? That is why you have to read the Alpha! It gives the flashback to when this poor innocent was just a kid. The kid thought that they were a mutant, well his caretaker did anyways. So, she took him to Xavier’s School of Gifted Youngsters. Turns out he was not a mutant, as already stated. He wreaked havoc all over the school and Wolverine tried to stop him. He got away and Wolverine ran into Ghost rider. misunderstandings ensue as they always do, but ultimately, the good guys realize they were both after the same thing. Thus the team-up.
The Ghost Rider issue flows well with the current series, so not reading the Alpha wont completely take you out of the series. Full disclosure, I do not read the Wolverine books so I don’t know how well it flows there. The duo work great together, not necessarily actually working together but from an entertainment perspective. The good guys prevail, but not without fighting each other again in the process. They do enjoy doing that don’t they?
Ultimately, I’m writing this to really say if you like either of these characters don’t just pass it by. Pick up the Alpha and Omega, grab the book of the character you may not read, like I did, sit back and enjoy the Ride.
I hope you enjoyed this quick entry on the Weapons of Vengeance crossover. If you have any input or comments, you can always find me on social media. I always have a post on instagram that has to do with these blog entries so your comments will be most welcome there. Thanks for reading.
